Much Ado in Carrigtwohill

Much Ado in Carrigtwohill

Excitement is mounting on the countdown to the inaugural Carrigtwohill Medieval Festival, which takes place at Barryscourt Castle on Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th July.

“The Carrigtwohill Medieval Festival promises to be one of the most exciting events taking place in Cork this summer,” said Ann O’Driscoll, Committee Chairperson. “There will be great entertainment for everyone and our whole community has pulled together in putting on the show. We have also been most fortunate to have the very generous sponsorship of Castlelake, the BAM Gable development in Carrigtwohill, without which the festival would not be possible to stage.”

The game is afoot at Barryscourt for some Midsummer Madness. Hear the ring of clashing steel as sword fights shatter the tranquillity of the Medieval Village at Carrigtwohill’s 15th Century Castle.  Experience the life and customs of the Middle Ages with a ‘Living History’ display of archery, blacksmithing, craft making or the preparation of old time meals. Shop for something delicious to eat at any one of the 24 food stalls taking part, or shop for that special gift from a choice of over 45 craft stalls. Enjoy music, Irish dancing, cookery demonstrations and story telling. Discover traditional Irish country side pursuits with gun dog displays, fishing activities, clay pigeon shooting, sheaf throwing, spinning the wool…. and spinning a yarn!

The Festival brings to life the customs and spirit of the Middle Ages. Barryscourt Castle will be transformed into a medieval village decorated with bright banners. Performers, guests and festival goers will enjoy fantastic entertainment, with vintage cars and steam engines displays, old time threshing, and an Army Band Display. For younger visitors, face painting, ony rides, milking daisy the cow, fortune telling, gladiators and bucking bull will keep both puppets, dance troupes, children’s sports, bouncing slides, lucky dip, hook-a-duck, p children and adults in high spirits all day.

Festivities kick into action on Saturday 18th at 10.30 a.m. the first event will commence at 11.30 a.m. with Medieval Entertainment by the Fingal Living History Society in the Main Arena. Activities will take place right through Saturday and Sunday between 10.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. Special traffic and parking arrangements will be in place. Tickets details as follows: Family ticket = €25.00 Adult ticket = €10.00 Child and OAP = €5.00
